Spire Climbing Center
Bozeman, MT

A scenic mountain landscape with grassy hills in the foreground and rugged mountain peaks in the background during sunset.

I am Victoria, a half-tamed creature with an imagination and a vision, living in Bozeman, MT.

I am a true lover of high places, its wind and its yellow sun. But I try, also, to make adventure of the material of daily living.

I am driven by the particular and wild beauty that roams free across these vast skied landscapes, and it will be my life’s work to attempt to catch but a sliver.

I graduated from Montana State with a degree in physics and sculptural studio arts, rediscovered the nearby mountains after a childhood within them, met my love, and will now perhaps never leave this lovely place. I am currently on the well-trodden path followed by many creatives throughout history: I wait tables at my favorite restaurant in town and let inspiration and adventure strike.

About the Artist

VICTORIA HOPE HAMLING

My art begins with living it.Choosing to seek the beauty that exists whether or not we will or sense it. The lines we leave in the snow as we trudge slowly upwards toward the rare winter sun, the ones we choose as we pick our way up sheer granite cliffs in spite of gravity—this is living art. I try to bring back a piece for the 2D world. Try to hang on to the childlike wonder of it. They were made by headlamp, perhaps, at camp. Many of these drawings survived (or didn’t survive) rain and hail and the 6-day-backpack-crumple-phenomenon.
